About

School of Planning and Architecture (SPA)Delhi, is an institute of national importance by an act of Parliament, one of its only kind, which exclusively provides training at various levels, in different aspects of human habitat and environment. It has ten post graduate department of studies and two undergraduate departments. The School has taken lead in introducing academic programmes in specialized fields both at Bachelor's and Master's level in the country, some of which are even today not available elsewhere in India. 

The Department of Transport Planning is one of the oldest post graduate departments at SPA Delhi offering two year Masters degree course in Transport Planning. Logistics and Urban Freight has been one of the core courses offered in Department of Transport Planning since 1980’s and is probably one of its kind not offered anywhere in the country. A lot of emphasis is laid on empirically driven project studies in design studios and research activities as part of thesis programmes. Particular emphasis is stressed on development of analytical tools and modelling techniques besides use of transport planning software by the students and research scholars. The Department have freight demand modelling software besides other standard transport planning software and expert faculty members

SPA Delhi has also been globally recognised as an Associate  Research Centre of the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Urban Freight Systems  (CoE-SUFS) since  Jan. 2018. A Centre for Urban Freight Studies (CUFS) has been set up within Transport Planning Department coordinated by Prof. Dr. Sanjay Gupta which keeps undertaking in –house research as well as building repository of knowledge in urban freight.

Areas of Expertise

The research on freight logistics in SPA Delhi is led by Prof. Dr. Sanjay Gupta  of Transport Planning Department  with nearly 35 years of experience.   Prof. Gupta has been offering   a course on Logistics and Urban Freight as part of Masters degree programme for  past 31 years   In addition  he has been supervising  studio projects as well Masters thesis and Ph.D.'s in the field of freight logistics.

SPA Delhi  has  the requisite expertise  in
